Rick Ross Says It's 'Fabricated.' Police Say They Have Video. Prosecutors Still Haven't Filed. What Gives?
Ross's arraignment on strangulation and domestic violence allegations was pushed to Nov. 6 because no formal charges exist yet, two months after the alleged attack. Meanwhile 50 Cent is in court with Ross's ex.

Rick Ross was supposed to be in a Miami courtroom Thursday morning to be arraigned. He won't be. His lawyers say the hearing got pushed to next Friday, Nov. 6, for a simple reason: prosecutors still haven't filed charges, WSVN 7News reported. He isn't expected to show up for that one either.
Here's what's on the record. Ross, 50, legal name William Leonard Roberts II, was arrested after a former girlfriend accused him of beating and choking her on Aug. 28, reportedly at his Star Island home. According to WSVN, the arrest report says Ross "struck the victim in the chest several times… choked the victim to the point she could not breathe… proceeded to grab the victim by her ponytail and slam the victim against the wall… then began to strike her in the face as she was bent over, causing a busted lip." She told detectives he got enraged over an Instagram photo she was tagged in. She posted photos of her injuries online. All of that is allegation. Nothing's been proven.
Ross bonded out Oct. 1 and said, "First and foremost, I'm totally innocent of these fabricated allegations made against me."
Miami Beach police aren't buying "fabricated." Spokesperson Christopher Bess said detectives "collected photographs of the injuries, surveillance video of the alleged incident, and they were able to establish probable cause for this arrest." The expected charges are felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic violence.
So the question writes itself: if police say they have surveillance video and photos, why is there still no charging document two months after the incident? I don't know, and nobody's said. Prosecutors haven't explained the timing publicly. It could be routine, a filing still being reviewed. It could be something else. That's me asking, not me knowing.
And look at the timing on the other side of Ross's life. The same week, 50 Cent, Ross's longest-running enemy, got a temporary restraining order against Tia Kemp, Ross's ex and the mother of his 21-year-old son, accusing her of cyberstalking 50's 14-year-old, according to TMZ and Vice. Weeks earlier, per Vice, Ross's son was pistol-whipped in South Florida and 50 joked about bailing the guy out. Ross hasn't directly responded to any of it.
My read, and it's only my read: Ross has spent years winning the 50 Cent war by not engaging. That works on Instagram. It doesn't work in a courtroom, where the only thing that matters is what the state files and what the video shows.
What we still don't know: why prosecutors haven't filed, what the surveillance video shows, and whether Nov. 6 actually happens.
