$445 Million, and the Space Lasers Didn't Work?

Musk was the cycle's top donor. His Texas picks lost, and his companies' stocks slipped.

Elon Musk gave more than $445 million to Republicans and allied groups, per OpenSecrets via NPR. At least $225 million went to Texas, for Ken Paxton and Greg Abbott. Both lost. Democrats took every statewide office in Texas.

Musk's reaction on X: 'Guess my election-interfering space lasers didn't work this time,' with a shrug.

Funny. Less funny: Democrats now run the committees, and they want to know about the $6.3 billion in contracts his companies got while he ran DOGE. SpaceX shares fell nearly 4% Wednesday, Tesla 3%.

That's an expensive shrug.

What we still don't know: whether any subpoenas actually come.

And that's the part that sticks with me: the official story and the lived story are running on two different clocks. Sources below if you want the straight news version without my side-eye.

What we still don't know: whether anyone with a title will treat the gap as a problem to fix — or just another footnote after the news cycle moves on.
