Galvin Won't Even Guess How Many of Us Show Up Today. Let's Make That an Easy Call

1.1 million already voted early. To match 2022, the state needs about 1.5 million more today. Nine ballot questions are waiting.

For the first time I can remember, Secretary of the Commonwealth Bill Galvin wouldn't give a turnout number. 'Usually, I'm offering a number. I'm simply not going to do that today because I think there are cross indicators,' he said Monday, per State House News Service.

Here's the math he did give us. More than 1.1 million people already voted by mail or early in person. Roughly 2.5 million voted in the 2022 midterm. So to match 2022, about 1.5 million more of us have to show up today.

There are nine questions on the ballot, from public defenders' right to unionize to cannabis to how we run primaries. That's a lot of law for one Tuesday, and it's being decided by whoever bothers to vote.

My opinion: if you skipped early voting, today's your day. Look up your polling place, read the questions before you get to the booth, and bring somebody with you.

Don't let 1.5 million be a 'hard question.' Make it an easy answer.
