Fire and Inspectional Services Said 1,425 Was Fine. The Licensing Board Said 1,200. So Who Decides How Many Fit in Cisco?

The board, apparently. And it split the difference with a neighborhood group that asked it to wait.

Cisco Brewers' Seaport venue at 85 Northern Ave. could hold 996. It asked for 1,425. The Boston Licensing Board on Thursday gave it 1,200, Universal Hub and The Boston Report reported.

The fun part: the Inspectional Services Department and the Fire Department had already approved 1,425. The licensing board's number wins anyway.

The Seaport Neighborhood Association asked the board to hold off over noise, lines and traffic. "I think the neighborhood loves Cisco," Brendan Doherty said. "I don't think we're asking for 7 months here."

The board said Cisco needs an answer now to plan next year, even though the venue is closed for the season. So: 204 more people, 225 short of the ask.

What we still don't know: whether Cisco comes back for the other 225, and what next summer's lines on Northern Avenue look like.
