185,569 Bostonians Voted. About 257,000 Registered Voters Didn't
City turnout landed near 41.9 percent. On a ballot with nine questions, a governor and a Senate seat, that's a lot of people letting somebody else decide.

Boston cast 185,569 ballots Tuesday, with all 275 precincts in, according to the city's unofficial results posted at 3:46 a.m. Against the 443,178 registered voters the Election Department reported before the election, that's about 41.9 percent.
Do the subtraction. Roughly 257,000 registered Bostonians sat it out.
And it mattered. Boston's 69 percent yes on Question 7 still wasn't enough to settle a question that was tied statewide at dawn. Every vote really was in play on that one.
My opinion: this isn't about shaming anybody. It's about making it easier. Early voting and mail voting exist. Use them next time, and bring a neighbor.
What we still don't know: the final certified turnout, and which neighborhoods showed up and which didn't. The precinct breakdown will tell that story.
